Average rating: Stars
Stars A power user from Windows->Linux->Powerbook
I'm writing this as encouragement to users out there to make the switch. Last March, I switched to the Powerbook and I LOVE it.

I am a computer power-user and I know Windows inside-out. I got sick of the annoyances (spyware, registry problems, slowing down over time) and switched to Gentoo Linux. I loved the power I had, and was able to get my machine tuned exactly so. But, the hardware support really started to bug me. Any change in hardware could require hours of tweaking and recompiling.

So, after seeing other power-Linux users moving to OS X I made the plunge. For a 10% restocking fee, if you are totally unhappy, you can take your Mac back. It's worth the 2-week test run.

Simply put, everything on my Mac works the way I want it and in ways I never thought of before. No more memorizing stupid shortcuts, no more registry, no more spyware headaches. Everything just works.

The downsides: My Creative Zen Micro isnt supported, and webcams are very hard to find (and tend to be expensive). VirtualPC lets you run Windows programs, but it's very slow (think 1/3-speed). But these are minor things that are stamped out quickly by the benefits.

Give it a try! It's great!

Stars the Best iBook Ever
This is the best Computer I ever has and is more than I can see in the specs. I have this computer as a tool in my office (windows environment) and I do not have any compatibility problem. Is small and powerfull.

Stars The Right Choice
I purchased the 12" PB at the end of this past school year for my upcpming move to college. I had alot of trouble choosing between the 15" PB or an iBook, but I can truely say that this was the right choice. The wireless options are more valuable than you think, especially bluetooth. I thought that since i had neither a BT mouse or phone, it wouldn't get much use; however, i have done more file transfers over BT than I ever would have anticipated. The battery has been awesome for me, yes awesome... IF you follow the tricks that apple suggests (and that many forums suggest) to extend battery life, such as turning off wireless when you don't need it, you can get a decent amount of time out of the battery. Not to mention the power adapter isn't that big and is cool looking?! My only wish is that they would incorporate the illuminated keyboard into the 12" PB, but I understand that there is a space issue inside the case. After using my PB, 2 friends and my sister have all gone out and bought new Macs (All of them previously used PCs, they bought 2 Powerbooks and an iBook).... Behold the power of mac. As for the whole not-so-dual-layerness of the Superdrive: if its that important to you that you have dual-layer (which i completely understand) there are alot of 3rd party Superdrives that you can purchase and have installed that integrate perfectly into OSX and iLife, something to look into if you're concerned.

A few tips:

- IF YOU ARE A STUDENT CHECK IF YOU CAN GET A FREE COPY OF MS OFFICE AND OTHER SOFTWARE FROM YOUR SCHOOL! (I did and avoided paying for it out of my own pocket).
- STUDENT DISCOUNT (Duh.)
