Terrible... |
This is the second Griffin product I bought for my iPod that I think is just plain garbage. The first was the FM transmitter which performed poorly in Chicago area.
The iTalk is just as bad. The microphone has awful pickup and the recorded sound is pratically unintelligble... Don't waste your money on this. If you need a voice recoder I would try a different brand...
Worthless. |

Better than expected after reading the reviews... |
My iPod is finally a complete tool. Music player, external bootable hard drive, and now voice recorder. I finally sprung for the iTalk after I saw the great price Amazon offers, and I'm not disappointed.
First, voice recording is pretty good. Don't expect studio quality sound. I record lectures about 20-30 ft away from the un-mic'ed prof, and the iTalk does a good job of adjusting the gain level. Uploading recordings to my iBook and playing the recordings on my Logitech speakers is very convenient. The bad part is the periodic hard drive noise. Voice recordings are cached, then stored on the hard drive, which makes for noticeable hard drive spin up noise. This can be avoided with an external mic.
Second, sound playback is decent. You can hear the music, like a tiny clock radio. Forget about listening to voice recordings on the speaker unless you talk directly into the mic.
Overall, I am quite pleased with my purchase and the $25 price. Better than average, 4 stars. |

Podcaster Here - I swear by the iTalk |
Hey dudes!
My name is Muhammad Ali Hasan
You can find my PodCast on the iTMS under ALI'S AMERICA
So far, I have recorded every PodCast episode with an iTalk, accompanied with the Griffin Stereo Microphone, which can be found at this link -

Personally, I LOVE THIS SETUP!!!!
The iTalk is a very high quality product
First off, its microphone is the best you can find out there, from the iPod accessories ---- the audio quality is very good, and in being an omni mic, it tries to capture all sounds around it
The sound quality is far superior to any tape recorder
However, for the BEST sound, buy an external mic (like the one I have above) and it will plug in VERY easily to the Griffin
From there, the audio and recording quality is even better! And it eliminates the need to lug around additional equipment for simple audio recordings
What I love most is how easily it plays with iTunes ---- the recordings are saved upon the iPod (and since the iTalk has a speaker, they can be listened to, or any other song on your iPod, for that matter) and from there, once you sync with iTunes, they are all automatically thrown onto your playlist, waiting to be edited
For Podcasting, I haven't found a better solution for quickly recording my audio, and I'm very pleased with how easy its all been
And most importantly, for those of you looking for the most professional of recordings, buy a great mic, and then hook it into the iTalk ------ the iTalks recordings are only as good as the mic you use with it (and its on-board mic, for the most part, is pretty darn good for common dialogue/radio recording)
if you are going to use it for Film or professional music recordings, I definitely recommend a good external mic
lastly - buyer beware ---- I believe that the iTalk may not work with 1st generation iPods ---- so be sure to check compatibility before purchasing
HAPPY BUYING!!!!! |
