Much better than the cradle my Tungsten C came with |
I hesitated to purchase the cradle since the reviews seemed to be so mixed. But, I'm glad I bought it. Such a great deal compared to buying it from PalmOne.
It connects to my Palm with a very positive click. I feel much more secure having my Tungsten C in this cradle. The original cradle didn't hold it as securely, and sometimes I almost dropped my PDA putting it in, as I thought it was locked in, but it wasn't, and almost slid out heading for the floor...doah! Not with this cradle. It holds it very securely.
I like the blue-white glow; it helps me to remember to turn off my surge protector.
It holds the PDA at an angle closer to vertical than the original cradle. I like this too, as the old cradle had it laying back too far, and causing glare on the screen. Not a problem with this new cradle.
My only gripe is that it's so light that you really need two hands to connect PDA, remove PDA and hotsync. You need to hold down the base with your other hand to keep it from sliding across the desk. It has rubber on the bottom, but it's not enough to keep it from sliding.
This is the cradle that should have come with my PDA.

Not totally convinced yet. |
I'm still a little bitter over buying Palm's piece of crap usb sync cord which broke after maybe three uses. This new cradle gets 5 stars for style, but a 3 for usability. The always-on LCD doesn't bug me much because I bought this cradle to use in my office, so I'm not there when it's dark. The light isn't that noticeable under normal lighting conditions.
I find that it doesn't connect very securely to the palm. You have to pay attention and make sure that the green light is on indicating that your PDA is charging. In all fairness, I just got a new PDA case that required me to put velco on the back of my palm....so maybe the thickness of the velcro is causing some of my connection troubles. But I don't have this issue with my regular cradle at home.
So far this cradle is working pretty well, I just wish it connected as nicely & securely as the traditional cradle. A slight jar or bump will cause the PDA to lose connection to the device. So you might leave it at your desk and come back to find that it hasn't charged after all. So watch out! |

Does the job, except for that light. |
| I bought the cradle for use with my Tungsten T3. It does the job; it's solid enough that it doesn't slide around on my desk, and guides the T3 to the connection port with little effort. My only complaint is that while the white LED glow that emanates from the base looks nice, I find it somewhat annoying. As an LED, it doesn't generate any noticeable heat and I'm sure that it draws very little power; still, it's a feature I'd like to be able to disable without having to unplug the AC adapter. |
