Call of Duty: Game of the Year Edition

Average rating: Stars
Stars The Greatest WWII Game...
Throughout my life, I have played numerous World War 2 First Person Shooter games, but "Call of Duty" Is the one of the few that stands out. It is truly one of the greatest World War 2 games ever made. Many World War Two games create a generic feel of the war. They rush you into some battle, you hit the trigger and blow up a few Nazis. Some world war two games actually feel realistic, they have stories built in to the game and have spectacular visual/sound effects. But Call of Duty goes well beyond that. It doesnt just make you feel as if you are in the game, it makes you feel like you are a soldier in the 101st Airborne, The British Spec Ops, and The Red Army.

You devolve a close bond with your fellow soldiers who are not super heros, but rather ordinary men who answered the Call to war when their country needed them. Each mission was realistic from the way the bullets fly from each gun, to the shell shock from each explosion. The game has a built in physics generator, in other words, if you fire a gun, each shot will be different depending on your character's stance and position. (Very few WW2 first person shooter games have this feature)

Moving on, the game also has memorable moments. Instead of focusing on the famous D-Day screen, they depict the role of troops from the 101st Airborne, and British Special Ops that landed in Normandy before the arrival of troops on the beaches. The game also shows the horrors of the battle of Stalingrad (probably the most under-rated battle of WWII) through the eyes of a young conscript Soldier. Through out the levels you can wield several weapons such as various sub-machine guns, hand guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and you even get to drive a tank!

Sadly, The game is some what short. I played it for awhile the day I first got it, and beat it in four to five hours. To compensate for that, the Game has a wonderful Multi-player mode, in which you can play with people over the internet. The Multi-player offers a lot of replay value and a good way to kill some time.

Call of Duty is a must buy for anyone who loves World War Two games, or interested in history. It has truly set the standard of excellency for all WW2 FPS games.

Stars call of duty
excellent game but to me too short, waiting for expansion to show
up at my house, highly recommend this game as it is a challenge
even on easy level, people who complain about the sound, bugs,
etc should stick to arcade games as a challenging game like this is obviously too much for them, if you like soldier of fortune or
deus ex you will like this game.

Stars Best I've Played
I'm not exaggerating when I give it 5 stars. I learned about this game seeing my boyfriend play it. When I tried it, I found myself more and more interested in it and it's the only real computer game that I love playing. There are a number of different maps (I don't remember how many but less than 15 and more than 5 if that helps). There's maps where it's American vs. Germans, Russians vs. Germans and British vs. Germans. You have a number of weapons you can choose from....ranging from Brens, Thompsons to rifles for example. There will be at least one map that everyone labels their favorite and there really is something for everyone. Whether you like maps that have open fields (brecourt) or maps with buildings (pavlov, railyard, harbor, etc) they are all provided. You can also play in different modes like single player, multiplayer deathmatch (my personal favorite), team deathmatch, capture the flag, etc. You also have the option of making up your own server or going onto other servers where you can play maps or weapons of choice you like (servers with map repitition or certain rotation, rifle only servers, etc.)If you liked this one, you'll like the expansion pack. If you like World War games I'm sure you will like this one. The graphics are probably the best I've seen in a computer game and also probably the most realistic. It's not hard to undertsand why it was the best game of the year.
