Great product... within 3 ft! |
I had such high hopes for this keyboard/mouse combo for my home entertainment PC. Dreams of fragging on a 56" HDTV on a comfy couch... Dashed... The keyboard and mouse have a normal range of about 3-4 ft. My wired keyboard has a longer cord than that. Strangely enough, if you hold the face or the bottom of the keyboard toward the receiver, the range can increase to about 10 ft, but no one can type like that! Therefore, the optimal placement for distance is to have the receiver 10 ft above the keyboard! Unfortunately, no orientation of the mouse will increase its distance.
On other fronts, they have a lame "F Lock" key. Otherwise, all the function keys have been remapped by Microsoft. Remember to hit F5 to refresh? Well, now F5 "opens" a document. To have standard function usage, you have to hit the F Lock key and there's no way to configure it to stay in the normal configuration so upon reboot or startup, you're back to the Microsoft way.
If you can look past those two critical faults, this keyboard/mouse setup is excellent! The mouse is smooth and shaped well. It has that awesome smooth scrolling wheel (no clicking). The keyboard does have a lot of extra buttons that you can remap. The touch of the keyboard is nice. I like the keys except I had to adapt to the superhuge Delete key. Once I did adapt, I kinda like it extra large. |

Good one for the price |
I bought this product about 4 months back when it was available for $25 after rebate. It is working fine for me. As most other reviewers said, the Function key is very weird. I dont know why they designed it this way. Also the Del key. I have used the Del key sometimes thinking I am hitting "Enter". One more drawback, which may not be true is, this will not work with other versions of Windows except for XP. The media keys are good and useful. Battery life has been good for the past 4 months and I use my computer about 4 hours a day.
Overall good value for the money. |
